About the artwork
This painting represents Eren and Mikasa, the lovers who never had a chance.
The two birds symbolize their true selves, reaching for each other. But the lines separating them are the ODM gear cables, keeping them apart.
Mikasa wants Eren with all her heart, and you can see that Eren wants her too. Yet his future self is the one holding him back. Because of that, he appears distant, as if he’s slowly losing the freedom to choose her, even though a part of him still wishes he could.
